Why We Are Here

Stonium was born from material, shaped by decades of experience in marble and concrete since 1965. Our roots lie in craftsmanship, in understanding how form, weight, and texture come to gether to shape meaningful spaces. What started as a family workshop has evolved into a house dedicated to supporting designers in creating cohesive, purpose-driven bathrooms

Despite the progress seen across bathroom design over the years, the washbasin has long remained a standardized element, often treated as secondary within the design hierarchy, rarely speaking the language of the space or delivering its intended message.

Through a concrete system that allows variation in tone, form, and texture, Stonium reposistions the basin as a lead element, central to both function and concept. Stonium is here. From daring forms to refined detailing and material depth, every element is shaped to let the basin become a lead voice in the bathroom, formally, functionally, and emotionally.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES

WATER RECYCLING

Production begins with 100% recycled water sourced through a closed-loop system from the marble facility. This significantly reduces fresh water consumption and supports LEED and WELL conservation targets. The recycling process achieves up to 98% water recovery and 85% sludge dehydration, minimizing environmental impact.

AGGREGATE SOURCING

Quartz and limestone aggregates are selected for their durability and low environmental footprint. Up to 50% of the aggregate mix is repurposed from crushed marble waste, diverting by-products from landfills. All materials are locally sourced to reduce transportation emissions and promote regional sustainability.

CEMENT USE

Only low-carbon, EcoLabel-certified cement is used, contributing to significant CO₂ emission reductions. Holcim’s ECOPlanet cement emits less than half the carbon of conventional cement while maintaining structural integrity. These cement formulations meet LEED and WELL standards for low-emitting, sustainable materials.

GLASS FIBER REINFORCEMENT

Glass fibers with 20% recycled content are added to enhance structural strength and durability. Supplied by Owens Corning, these fibers comply with EN standards and contribute to both LEED and WELL indoor environmental criteria. Their production strategy includes regional sourcing to limit transport emissions.
